أَشكوI complain إِلىto اللَهِGod أَنَّthat الدَمعَthe tears قَدalready نَفِداhave run out
وَأَنَّنيand that I هالِكٌam perishing مِنfrom حُبِّكُمlove for you كَمَداfrom grief
I complain to God that my tears have run dry,
I complain to God that my tears have run out
and that I am dying of grief from loving you,
And that I am destroyed by your love completely
وَأَنَّand that عَينِيَmy eye فيin لَيلٍa night مُسَهَّدَةٌkept sleepless
فَلَستُso I am not أَرقُدُI sleep فيهِin it مِثلَlike مَنone who رَقَداslept
and that my eye is kept sleepless at night;
And that my eyes in the night lie sleepless
so I do not sleep that night as others do.
So I do not rest in it like one who has rested
قالواthey said الفِراقُthe parting غَداًtomorrow لاno شَكَّdoubt قُلتُI said لَهُمto them
بَلrather مَوتُdeath نَفسِيَmy soul مِنfrom قَبلِbefore الفِراقِthe parting غَداtomorrow
They said, “Parting is tomorrow, without doubt.” I told them:
They said separation tomorrow without doubt I said to them
“Rather, my soul will die tomorrow, before the parting.”
Rather the death of my soul before separation tomorrow
إِنّيindeed I إِذاًthen لَصَبورٌsurely very patient إِنif بَقيتُI remain alive وَقَدand already
قالواthey said الرَحيلَdeparture وَإِنand even if لَمnot يَرحَلواthey depart أَبَداever
I must indeed be very patient, then, if I live on after
So I am patient if I remain when they have said departure
they have announced departure—even if they never depart.
Even if they do not depart ever
