أُعَلِّقُI attach قَلبيmy heart بِالأَحاديثِto the tales بَعدَكُمafter you
أُعَلِّقُ قَلبي بِالأَحاديثِ بَعدَكُم
وَأَصرِفُand I turn لَحظيmy gaze عَنaway from مُحَدِّثِهِthe one speaking to it عَمداdeliberately
وَأَصرِفُ لَحظي عَن مُحَدِّثِهِ عَمدا
I attach my heart to tales after you have gone,
I hang my heart on tales of you after you've gone
And deliberately turn my gaze from the one speaking to it.
And turn my gaze from their teller, deliberately
وَأَسأَلُهُand I ask him رَدَّrepetition of الأَحاديثِthe tales عَلَّهُdistracted him
وَأَسأَلُهُ رَدَّ الأَحاديثِ عَلَّهُ
سُؤالٌa question وَأُخفيand I hide دَمعَةًa tear تَفضَحُbetrays الوَجداthe longing
سُؤالٌ وَأُخفي دَمعَةً تَفضَحُ الوَجدا
And I ask him to repeat the tales; he is distracted by
And ask that he return the tales, hoping
A question, while I hide a tear that betrays my longing.
My request hides a tear betraying my torment
