أَقبَلَhe came forward يَفريhe rends وَيَدَعand leaves be
مُمتَلِئَfilled اللَحظِthe gaze جَزَعanguish
He came forward, rending and leaving be,
He approached, panicking, fleeing,
His gaze filled with anguish,
Filled with fearful glances,
مُستَروِعاًtaking fright وَلَمand was not يُرَعfrightened
تَنصُرُهُyou aid him إِذاwhen رَفَعhe lifts up
Taking fright, though he had not been frightened.
Terrified, unrestrained,
You aid him when he lifts up.
None to aid him when embroiled,
لَمّاwhen رَأىhe saw وَجهَthe face of الفَزَعterror
وَرَيبَand the vicissitudes of دَهرٍtime قَدalready خَدَعdeceived
When he saw the face of terror,
For he saw the face of dread,
And the vicissitudes of time, which had deceived,
And a time of treachery and deceit,
وَحُمَّand was decreed مَوتٌdeath وَنَقَعand took hold
فَقَطَعَso he cut البُعدَthe distance قِطَعpieces
And death was decreed and took hold,
And a death that comes suddenly,
So he cut the distance into pieces.
So he traversed great distances,
وَلَيسَand there is no فيin العَيشِlife جَزَعanguish
And there is no anguish in life.
And felt no sorrow for life.
