خانَhe betrayed عَهديmy covenant وَظَلَمand did wrong
خانَ عَهدي وَظَلَم
جائِرٌunjust فيماin what حَكَمhe decreed
جائِرٌ فيما حَكَم
He broke faith with me and did me wrong,
He betrayed my covenant and did wrong
unjust in what he decreed.
Oppressive in all he decreed
أَصدَقُmost truthful الناسِpeople بِلاwith 'no'
أَصدَقُ الناسِ بِلا
أَكذَبُmost untruthful الناسِpeople نَعَمyes
أَكذَبُ الناسِ نَعَم
The most truthful of people in saying 'no',
The most truthful of people, without doubt
the most untruthful of people in saying 'yes'.
The greatest liar of people, yes indeed
قُلtell لِمَنto the one who يَحلِفُswears ليto me
قُل لِمَن يَحلِفُ لي
صادِقاًbeing truthful فيماin what زَعَمhe claimed
صادِقاً فيما زَعَم
Tell the one who swears to me,
Say to the one who swears loyalty to me
truthful in what he claims,
Truthful, so he claimed
إِنَّهُthat he يَعشَقُنيhe loves me passionately
إِنَّهُ يَعشَقُني
عاشِقٌa lover ليof me وَلَكُمand of you (plural)
عاشِقٌ لي وَلَكُم
that he is in love with me—
That he loves me passionately
in love with me and with you all—
A lover of me and all of you
خَلِّleave قَلبيmy heart هَكَذاlike this
خَلِّ قَلبي هَكَذا
لاdo not تَزِدincrease قَلبيmy heart هَمsorrow
لا تَزِد قَلبي هَم
'Leave my heart as it is;
Leave my heart be like this
do not add sorrow to my heart.'
Do not add more grief to my heart
