كَمhow many تائِهٍa haughty man بِوِلايَةٍthrough holding office
كَم تائِهٍ بِوِلايَةٍ
وَبِعَذلِهِand with his reprimand يَعدوraces البَريدthe courier
وَبِعَذلِهِ يَعدو البَريد
How many a man is puffed with pride by his governorship,
How many a man grows haughty in office,
while many a discerning man runs as a courier!
While the courier races bearing his reprimand!
سُكرُintoxication الوِلايَةِof office طَيِّبٌsweet
سُكرُ الوِلايَةِ طَيِّبٌ
وَخُمارُهاand its hangover صَعبٌharsh شَديدsevere
وَخُمارُها صَعبٌ شَديد
The intoxication of office is sweet,
The intoxication of office is sweet,
but its hangover is hard and severe.
But its hangover is harsh and severe.
