أَياO دَهرُTime لاnot تُرعيyou show mercy عَلَيناtoward us وَلاand not تُبقيyou spare
فَرِفقاًso, be gentle بِناwith us بَلnay لاnot أَرىI see لَكَin you مِنany رِفقِgentleness
O Time, you neither show us mercy nor spare us.
So be gentle with us—nay, I see no gentleness in you.
فَكَمfor how many مِنof حَبيبٍa loved one قَدindeed شَقَقتَyou split open ضَريحَهُhis grave
وَأَسكَنتُهُand I lodged him بَيتاًa house هُوَit is البَيتُthe home مِنin حَقِّtruth
For how many a loved one’s grave you have split open,
And I have lodged him in a house that is truly home.
