لاno خَيرَgood فيin العالِمينَthe learned كُلِّهِمُall of them
لا خَيرَ في العالِمينَ كُلِّهِمُ
وَلاnor مِنَfrom among العالَمينَmankind مُنفَرِداtaken alone
وَلا مِنَ العالَمينَ مُنفَرِدا
There is no good in all the learned men taken together,
There is no good in the learned, taken all together,
nor in any one person among mankind taken alone.
Nor in any one of mankind, taken alone.
لاnot يَسلَمُis safe المَرءُa person حينَwhen يَصلُحُis upright مِنfrom
لا يَسلَمُ المَرءُ حينَ يَصلُحُ مِن
ذَمِّcensure حَسودٍan envious person فَكَيفَso how إِنif فَسَداhe becomes corrupt
ذَمِّ حَسودٍ فَكَيفَ إِن فَسَدا
No man is safe, even when he acts rightly, from

an envier’s censure—how then, if he turns corrupt?
