كَذاthus تَبغيyou seek المَحامِدُpraise وَالمَعاليand lofty rank
كَذا تَبغي المَحامِدُ وَالمَعالي
أَلَستَare you not تَراهُمُseeing them تُرباًdust صَموتاsilent
أَلَستَ تَراهُمُ تُرباً صَموتا
Thus you seek praise and lofty rank.
Do you not see them as silent dust?
أَباO Abu حَسَنٍHasan قَراكَmay He receive you hospitably اللَهُGod حُسناًkindly
أَبا حَسَنٍ قَراكَ اللَهُ حُسناً
يَعُزُّis grievous عَلىto المَكارِمِthe noble virtues أَنthat تَموتاyou should die
يَعُزُّ عَلى المَكارِمِ أَن تَموتا
O Abu Hasan, may God receive you kindly.
It grieves the noble virtues that you should die.
