لا تَسأَلَنَّ سِوى الأَسفارِ مِن رَجُلِ

لا تَسأَلَنَّ سِوى الأَسفارِ مِن رَجُلِ

فَالمَرءُ ما دامَ حَيّاً خادِمُ الأَمَلِ

فَالمَرءُ ما دامَ حَيّاً خادِمُ الأَمَلِ

Ask nothing of any man but journeying;

Ask nothing of a man but journeys.

For as long as he lives, man is the servant of hope.

For as long as a man lives, he is a servant of hope.

قالَت عَزَمتَ عَلى بَينٍ فَقُلتُ لَها

قالَت عَزَمتَ عَلى بَينٍ فَقُلتُ لَها

لي عَزمَةٌ قَد أَجازَ اللَهُ لي عَمَلي

لي عَزمَةٌ قَد أَجازَ اللَهُ لي عَمَلي

She said, “I am resolved upon parting.” Then I said to her,

She said, “You have resolved on parting.” I said to her,

“I too have a resolve; God has sanctioned my deed.”

“I have a firm resolve; God has approved my undertaking.”
