كَأَنَّهُ لَمّا غَدا

كَأَنَّهُ لَمّا غَدا

وَالصُبحُ لَم يَنبَلِجِ

وَالصُبحُ لَم يَنبَلِجِ

As though, when he set forth,

He seemed, when he set out early,

while dawn had yet to break,

while dawn had not yet broken,

قائِدُ جَيشٍ جَحفَلٍ

قائِدُ جَيشٍ جَحفَلٍ

سارَ لِقَبضِ المُهَجِ

سارَ لِقَبضِ المُهَجِ

he were the commander of a mighty host,

a commander of a mighty army,

marching to seize souls:

marching forth to seize souls;

فَجِسمُهُ مِن فَضَّةٍ

فَجِسمُهُ مِن فَضَّةٍ

وَدِرعُهُ مِن سَبَجِ

وَدِرعُهُ مِن سَبَجِ

his body fashioned of silver,

for his body was of silver,

and his armor fashioned of jet.

and his armor was of jet.
