صَدَّت شُرَيرُ وَأَزمَعَت هَجري

صَدَّت شُرَيرُ وَأَزمَعَت هَجري

وَصَغَت ضَمائِرُها إِلى الغَدرِ

وَصَغَت ضَمائِرُها إِلى الغَدرِ

Shurayr turned away and resolved to forsake me,

Shurayr turned away and resolved to abandon me.

and her secret thoughts inclined toward betrayal.

And her inner thoughts inclined toward treachery.

قالَت كَبِرتَ وَشِبتَ قُلتُ لَها

قالَت كَبِرتَ وَشِبتَ قُلتُ لَها

هَذا غُبارُ وَقائِعِ الدَهرِ

هَذا غُبارُ وَقائِعِ الدَهرِ

She said, “You have grown old and gray.” I said to her:
