لاNo وَالَّذيby Him who لاno إِلَهَgod إِلّاexcept هوHe
لا وَالَّذي لا إِلَهَ إِلّا هو
أَنتَyou بِهَذاbecause of this عَلَيَّtoward me تَيّاهُhaughty
أَنتَ بِهَذا عَلَيَّ تَيّاهُ
No—by Him besides whom there is no god,
No, by Him—there is no god but He—
you act haughtily toward me because of this.
You are haughty toward me because of this.
ماno لِيَfor me ذَنبٌsin سِوىexcept مَحاسِنَهُhis beauties
ما لِيَ ذَنبٌ سِوى مَحاسِنَهُ
شاهِدِيَmy witness اللَهُGod حَسبِيَsufficient for me اللَهُGod
شاهِدِيَ اللَهُ حَسبِيَ اللَهُ
I have no fault save his charms.
I have no sin save his beauties.
God is my witness; God is enough for me.
God is my witness; God suffices me.
لَمdid not تَرَsee عَينيmy eye مِنfrom قَبلِهِbefore him قَمَراًa moon
لَم تَرَ عَيني مِن قَبلِهِ قَمَراً
حَكىresembled هِلالَcrescent moon الدُجىthe darkness of night فاراهُrivaled it
حَكى هِلالَ الدُجى فاراهُ
Before him, my eye had never seen a moon
My eye had never seen a moon before him
that mirrored night's crescent and rivaled it.
That resembled the crescent of night and rivaled it.
