أَصبَحَhas become سِرّيmy secret فيin الحُبِّlove قَدalready شاعاhas spread
وَصِرتُand I have become عَبداًa slave فيin الحُبِّlove مِطواعاutterly obedient
My secret of love has now spread abroad,
My secret in love has now become widely known.
and I have become a slave, utterly submissive in love.
And I have become an utterly obedient slave to love.
لاdo not تَعذِلونيreproach me فَقَدfor indeed بَرِمتُI have grown weary بِكُمof you
وَاِجتَنِبواand refrain from نُصحَكُمyour counsel فَقَدfor indeed ضاعاhas gone to waste
Do not reproach me—for I have grown weary of you;
Do not reproach me, for I have grown weary of you.
withhold your counsel, for it has gone to waste.
And spare me your counsel, for it has gone to waste.
أَفنىdestroyed رَجائيmy hope بِخُلفِهِby his breach of promise رَشَأٌa young gazelle
يُديرُcasts لَحظاًa glance بِالوَعدِwith promises خَدّاعاdeceitful
A fawn has destroyed my hope by breaking his word,
A young gazelle has destroyed my hope by breaking his word.
casting a glance, deceptive in its promise,
He casts a glance that deceives with promises.
مُجَدِّدٌone who renews لِلوِصالِof loving union مُخلِقُهُone who wears it out
فَدَيتُهُmay I be his ransom مُعطِياًgiving وَمَنّاعاand withholding
renewing it for union while wearing it threadbare.
He renews our union, yet wears it out.
May I be his ransom, whether he gives or withholds!
May I be his ransom, whether he gives or withholds.
