فَقريmy poverty غَنيٌّrich وَشَبابيand my youth كَهلُmiddle-aged
وَكُلُّand every فَضلٍexcellence ليI have عَلَيهِover it فَضلُsuperiority
My poverty is rich, and my youth is middle-aged.
And every excellence is surpassed by my own.
أَشكوI complain لِجوديto my generosity حينَwhen يَشكوcomplains البُخلُmiserliness
وَلَيسَand there is no عِنديwith me لِخَؤونٍfor a habitual traitor وَصلُbond
I complain to my generosity when miserliness complains.
And I have no bond with a treacherous man.
وَلاnor إِذاwhen عَزَّgrows proud أَخٌa brother أَذُلُّI abase myself
إِنif كُنتَyou were لَمnot تَبلُyou experience فَسَوفَthen you will تَبلوyou experience
Nor do I abase myself when a brother grows proud.
If you have not yet experienced it, you will.
