وَياand O كَئيباًsorrowful وَقَضيباًand a slender branch وَقَمَرand a moon
وَيا كَئيباً وَقَضيباً وَقَمَر
O cruel in deed, yet wronged in gaze,
O cruel in deed, yet with a victim's gaze!
And O melancholy one—slender bough and moon,
And O sorrowful one, slender branch, and moon!
قُدِّرتَyou were destined ليfor me فَحَبَّذاso how wonderful هَذاthis القَدَرfate
قُدِّرتَ لي فَحَبَّذا هَذا القَدَر
وَإِنand even if مَلَأتَyou filled العَينَthe eye دَمعاًwith tears وَسَهَرand sleeplessness
وَإِن مَلَأتَ العَينَ دَمعاً وَسَهَر
You were decreed for me—how welcome is this decree,
You were destined for me—how wonderful this fate!
Even though you fill my eye with tears and sleeplessness.
Even if you filled my eye with tears and sleeplessness.
