أَبصَرتُهُI saw him فيin المَنامِthe dream مُعتَذِراًapologizing
إِلَيَّto me مِمّاfor what جَناهُhe had committed يَقظاناwhile awake
I saw him in a dream, apologizing
to me for the wrong he had done while awake.
وَلانَand he softened حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen هَمَمتُI was intent بِهِon him
نُبِّهتُI was awakened عِندَat الصَباحِdawn لاmay it never كاناhave been
And he softened, until, just as I meant to approach him,
I was awakened at dawn—may it never have been!
