أَقولُI say وَقَدand already طالَhas grown long لَيلُthe night of الهُمومِcares
أَقولُ وَقَد طالَ لَيلُ الهُمومِ
وَقاسَيتُand I have endured حُزنَthe sorrow of فُؤادٍa heart سَقيمِailing
وَقاسَيتُ حُزنَ فُؤادٍ سَقيمِ
I say, as the night of cares has grown long,
and I have endured the sorrow of an ailing heart:
عَسىperhaps الشَمسُthe sun قَدalready مُسِخَتhas been transformed كَوكَباًinto a star
عَسى الشَمسُ قَد مُسِخَت كَوكَباً
وَقَدand already طَلَعَتhas risen فيin عِدادِthe ranks of النُجومِthe stars
وَقَد طَلَعَت في عِدادِ النُجومِ
Perhaps the sun has been transformed into a star
and has risen among the ranks of the stars.
