قَدat times أَغتَديI set out early وَفيand in الدُجىthe darkness مَبالِغُfar reaches
قَد أَغتَدي وَفي الدُجى مَبالِغُ
وَالفَجرُand dawn لِلساقَةِfor the rearguard مِنهاof it صائِغُa goldsmith
وَالفَجرُ لِلساقَةِ مِنها صائِغُ
At times I set out early, while darkness still stretches far.
I have become intoxicated while the darkness abounds,
And dawn is a goldsmith to its rearguard.
And dawn for the travelers from it is gleaming.
وَمِنهُand from it لِلصُبحِfor morning خَطيبٌan orator نابِغُgifted
وَمِنهُ لِلصُبحِ خَطيبٌ نابِغُ

وَاللَيلُ في المَغرِبِ عَنهُ رائِغُ
And from it comes a gifted orator for morning.
From it, for the morning, an eloquent preacher,
And night slips away from it in the west.
And the night in the west from it is departing.

With a Mashrafi sword, lapping blood.
With blood-stained spendthrift garments donned,
An ample shirt of brocade was cut for it.
For him has been tailored a long youthful shirt,

And a beak, keen-pointed and weeping.
And a departing skirt with tears overflowing,
A broad wing fills its two palms.
Filling both his palms, wings expanding free.
