    وَأَكثَرتَ أَحزانَ الفُؤادِ المُرَوَّعِ

    And you are the one who humbled my bearing before people,

    And multiplied the sorrows of my terror-stricken heart;

    And gave my eye its fill to drink from its own tears,

    And taught it the glance of one suspicious and terrified.

    فَما شِئتِ يا عَيني مِنَ الآنِ فَاِصنَعي

    And I had never yielded obedience to love and tears;

    So, my eye, from now on do whatever you wish.

    And I have found in patience no avenue for intercession

    Through tears with anyone but a beloved—so intercede.

    Do you not see the star that is rising

    Above you? For this is helpful to lovers.

    Perhaps my gaze and his will meet on the horizon,

    So it may unite us, since on earth there is none to unite us.
