وَقَهوَةٍand a wine صَفراءَyellow مِثلَlike الوَرسِwars, a yellow plant dye
قَدhas indeed حُبِسَتbeen confined فيin الدُنِّthe wine jar أَيَّwhat a حَبسِconfinement
And a yellow wine, like wars dye,
Like saffron, the yellow coffee
Confined in the wine jar—what a confinement!
Is imprisoned in the lower world, what imprisonment!
أُصبِحُI greet the morning أُسقىI am given to drink كَأسَهاits cup وَأُمسيand I greet the evening
فيin قَمَرٍa moon كَأَنَّهُas though it were اِبنُa son of شَمسِa sun
Morning and evening I am served its cup,
I wake up watering its cup and sleep
In a moon, as though it were a son of the sun;
In a moon that looks to be the son of the sun
يَومِيَmy day مِنهاfrom it أَبَداًforever كَأَمسيlike my yesterday
With it, my today is forever like my yesterday.
My days with it are forever like my evenings
