وَسَوداءَ ذاتِ دَلالٍ غَنِج
لَهاfor her فيin الفُؤادِthe heart هَوىًpassion يَعتَلِجsurges
لَها في الفُؤادِ هَوىً يَعتَلِج
And a dark-skinned woman endowed with coquettish charm—
The dark-skinned beauty sways with grace
passion for her surges within the heart.
In my heart stirs a restless love
إِذاwhen أَنتَyou أَبصَرتَهاyou see her فيamong النِساwomen
إِذا أَنتَ أَبصَرتَها في النِسا
تَرىyou see لُعبَةًa figurine خُرِطَتwas carved مِنfrom سَبَجjet
تَرى لُعبَةً خُرِطَت مِن سَبَج
When you behold her among women,
When you see her among the ladies
you see a figurine carved from jet.
