O miser, who knows not what generosity is—
O miser, who does not know what generosity is,
baseness has forbidden him even a “yes” where generosity is concerned.
Meanness has barred “yes” from his mouth.

سَرَّني مِن يَقظَةٍ فيما حَكَم
At the Feast, they told me something about him
At Eid they told me something about him
that delighted me—for the vigilance he showed in what he resolved:
that delighted me: the shrewdness of his decision.
وَاِستَخارَand sought guidance from اللَهَGod فيin عَزمَتِهِhis resolve
وَاِستَخارَ اللَهَ في عَزمَتِهِ

ثُمَّ ضَحّى بِقَفاهُ وَاِحتَجَم
he sought God’s guidance concerning his decision,
And he sought God's guidance in his resolve,
then made his own nape the sacrifice, and had himself cupped.
then offered his nape as the sacrifice and had himself cupped.
