وَلَقَدand indeed غَدَوتُI went out in the morning عَلىon طِمِرٍa nimble steed قارِحٍfully grown

Whose hooves formed a cloud of dust.

Veiled in iron bits, he chews them
As a maiden chews tooth-cleaning sticks of isḥil wood.
وَمُحَجَّلٍand white-stockinged غَيرَexcept اليَمينِthe right foreleg كَأَنَّهُas though he were

And white-stockinged except on the right foreleg, as though he were
A swaggerer walking with a sleeve hanging loose.
