أَلاAh! فَاِسقِنيهاso give it to me to drink قَدalready نَعىannounced the death of اللَيلَthe night ديكُهُits rooster
أَلا فَاِسقِنيها قَد نَعى اللَيلَ ديكُهُ
وَأَغرىand incited بِأُفقِagainst the horizon of اللَيلِthe night فَهوَso it is سَليبُdespoiled
وَأَغرى بِأُفقِ اللَيلِ فَهوَ سَليبُ
Ah, then pour it for me: the night’s rooster has proclaimed night’s death,
And incited an assault on night’s horizon, so it lies despoiled.
وَقَدand indeed لاحَappeared لِلساريto the night traveler سُهَيلٌSuhayl (Canopus) كَأَنَّهُas though it were
وَقَد لاحَ لِلساري سُهَيلٌ كَأَنَّهُ
عَلىover كُلِّevery نَجمٍstar فيin السَماءِthe sky رَقيبُa watchman
عَلى كُلِّ نَجمٍ في السَماءِ رَقيبُ
And Suhayl has appeared to the night traveler, as though it were
A watchman over every star in the sky.
