وَصارَتand became مَوَدَّتُهُhis affection كَزَّهstiff and grudging
A friend of ours has pretended to be too busy for us,
A friend of ours became preoccupied with others
And his affection has grown grudging.
And his affection toward us weakened
وَصَرَand became (likely وَصارَ) إِذاwhenever جاءَناhe came to us بِالسَلاwith greetings (continued next line)
مِcompletion of السلام, 'greetings' فيin مَشيِهِhis walking عاجِلَquick القَفزَهthe leap
And now, whenever he comes to us with greetings,
And when he came to visit us, his gait betrayed
He is quick to leap as he walks.
A hasty leaping in his step
وَكانَتand was مَوَدَّتُهُhis affection حُلوَةًsweet
فَصارَتthen became مَوَدَّتُهُhis affection مُزَّهsour
And his affection was once sweet,
His affection was once so sweet
Then his affection turned sour.
Now it has become bitter
وَيَستُرُand he hides مِنout of خَجَلٍshame وَجهَهُhis face
وَيَمشيand he walks فَيَعثُرُthen he stumbles فيover الرُزَّهthe door-staple
And he hides his face out of shame,
He hides his face in shame
And walks, stumbling over the door-staple.
And stumbles as he walks on pebbles
