وَفُؤادي في الغَيِّ بَعدُ جَموحُ
The ruse of gray hair shows in my sideburns,
The trick of grey hair hints in my excuses
And my heart is still unbridled in waywardness.
And my heart after that is still impassioned

نَ الخِضابَ الكُميتَ أَيضاً قَبيحُ
The tint of gray hair is ugly, just as
The appearance of white hair is as ugly as
The reddish-brown hair dye, too, is ugly.
The dyeing with henna is also ugly

This is patched-up youth, plain to see,
This is fabricated youth that does not hide
And that genuine youth has passed.
And that genuine youth has passed
