رُبَّmany a لَيلٍnight قَدindeed نَعِمتُI delighted بِهِin it
وَنَهارٍand a day ماnot عَلِمتُI knew بِهِof it
Many a night I have enjoyed,
Many a night I have spent
And many a day I knew nothing of.
And many a day passed by unknowing
ظِلتُI remained فيهِthrough it مَيِّتاًdead سَكَراًfrom drunkenness
ذاكَthat سُكرٌintoxication قَدindeed ظَفِرتُI attained بِهِit
I spent it dead drunk—
In intoxication I lay as one dead
That is an intoxication I have attained.
That intoxication, I attained it
