نَقَّطتَyou dotted صُدغَكَyour temple-lock ذالاًthe letter dhāl
نَقَّطتَ صُدغَكَ ذالاً
فَالوَيلُso woe مِنfrom شَكلِthe shape of ذَلِكthat
فَالوَيلُ مِن شَكلِ ذَلِك
You dotted your temple-lock into a dhāl;
You dotted your cheek with a beauty mark
So woe comes from the shape of that!
Alas, the shape of that!
لَوif أَنَّthat ذَلِكَthat ذاليmy dhāl
لَو أَنَّ ذَلِكَ ذالي
سَجَدتُI prostrated myself مِنfor أَجلِthe sake of ذَلِكthat
سَجَدتُ مِن أَجلِ ذَلِك
If that were my dhāl,
If that were truly beauty
I would prostrate myself for its sake.
I would prostrate myself for that
