وَالثُرَيّا في الغَربِ كَالعُنقودِ

He visited me while the darkness was deep black at its edges,

My father visited me when the night was darkest

and the Pleiades in the west were like a cluster of grapes,

And the Pleiades in the west like a bunch of grapes

وَهِلالُ السَماءِ طَوقُ عَروسٍ

وَهِلالُ السَماءِ طَوقُ عَروسٍ

باتَ يُجلى عَلى غَلائِلَ سودِ

باتَ يُجلى عَلى غَلائِلَ سودِ

and the sky’s crescent was a bride’s necklace,

And the crescent moon a bride's necklace

displayed all night against gauzy black robes.
