جَعَلتُ صَميمَ القَلبِ مِنّي لَهُ قَبرا
And when we buried his body in his earth,
When we buried his body in the soil
I made the very core of my heart a grave for him,
I made the heart within me his tomb
وَتُربَتَهُand its soil سِرَّthe secret depths الفُؤادِof the heart وَكُلَّماand whenever

هَمَمتُ بِأَن أَنساهُ جَدَّدَ لي ذِكرا
And its soil the heart's secret depths; and whenever
And his dust became the secret of my heart
I meant to forget him, it revived remembrance for me.
Whenever I tried to forget him, it renewed the memory
