ذَكَرتُI remembered عُبَيدَUbayd اللَهِAllah وَالتُربُand the earth دونَهُbetween me and him
ذَكَرتُ عُبَيدَ اللَهِ وَالتُربُ دونَهُ
فَلَمso did not تَملِكِpossess العَينانِthe two eyes إِلّاexcept بُكاهُماtheir weeping
فَلَم تَملِكِ العَينانِ إِلّا بُكاهُما
I remembered Ubayd Allah, with earth between us;
I remembered Ubaydullah while dust covers him
so my eyes could do nothing but weep.
My eyes could only do nothing but weep
وَحاشاهُand far be it from him مِنfrom قَولٍa saying سَقىmay water الغَيثُthe rain قَبرَهُhis grave
وَحاشاهُ مِن قَولٍ سَقى الغَيثُ قَبرَهُ
يَداهُhis two hands تُسَقّيwater قَبرَهُhis grave مِنfrom نَداهُماtheir bounty; their dew
يَداهُ تُسَقّي قَبرَهُ مِن نَداهُما
And he is above the wish, 'May rain water his grave':
Far from me to say the rain quenched his grave
his hands water his grave with the dew of their generosity.
His own generosity still waters his grave
