إِنّيIndeed, I غَريبٌa stranger بِدارٍin an abode لاno كِرامَnoble people بِهاin it
إِنّي غَريبٌ بِدارٍ لا كِرامَ بِها
كَغُربَةِlike the estrangement of الشَعرَةِthe strand of hair السَوداءِblack فيamid الشَمَطِgraying hair
كَغُربَةِ الشَعرَةِ السَوداءِ في الشَمَطِ
I am a stranger in an abode with no noble people,
I am a stranger in a house without hospitality
As out of place as a black hair amid the gray.
Like the strangeness of a single black hair on white skin
ماnot أُطلِقُI let roam العَينَthe eye فيupon شَيءٍanything أُسَرُّI am delighted بِهِby it
ما أُطلِقُ العَينَ في شَيءٍ أُسَرُّ بِهِ
وَلَستُand I am not أُبديI show الرِضاcontentment إِلّاexcept عَلىdespite السَخطِdispleasure
وَلَستُ أُبدي الرِضا إِلّا عَلى السَخطِ
I never cast my gaze on anything that delights me,
I cast my eyes on nothing with delight
And I show contentment only despite my displeasure.
And I express no contentment except with discontent
