وَمُتَيَّمٍ جَرَحَ الفُراقُ فُؤادَهُ

وَمُتَيَّمٍ جَرَحَ الفُراقُ فُؤادَهُ

فَالدَمعُ مِن أَجفانِهِ يَتَدَفَّقُ

فَالدَمعُ مِن أَجفانِهِ يَتَدَفَّقُ

And a love-stricken man whose heart separation has wounded—

The pangs of parting have wounded Mutayyam's heart,

so tears stream from his eyelids.

So tears from his eyelids copiously drop.

بَهَرَتهُ ساعَةُ فِرقَةٍ فَكَأَنَّما

بَهَرَتهُ ساعَةُ فِرقَةٍ فَكَأَنَّما

في كُلِّ عُضوٍ مِنهُ قَلبٌ يَخفِقُ

في كُلِّ عُضوٍ مِنهُ قَلبٌ يَخفِقُ

The hour of parting overwhelmed him, as though

For one short hour of severance hath dazed him until

in every limb of his a heart were beating.

Within his every limb there beats a heart distraught.
