No—by a cheek barren of the greenery of hair,
No cheek of youthful green from poetry's freshness,
whose light gleams like the flat of a sharp sword,
No brightness shining like anger’s page,

and by a smile after a frown of anger,
No smile after frown’s contraction,
and by the contentment of an eye’s glance after reproach:
No gaze of coquette after reproach.
ماnot تَبَدَّلتُI took another in exchange ماas long as حَيِيتُI lived وَلاand not حَدَّثtold (verb stem)
ما تَبَدَّلتُ ما حَيِيتُ وَلا حَدَّث
تُI (verb suffix) نَفسيmyself مَنanyone بَعدَafter حِبّيmy beloved كَحِبّيlike my beloved
تُ نَفسي مَن بَعدَ حِبّي كَحِبّي
Throughout my life I have never taken another, nor have I told
I have not changed while I lived, nor conversed
myself that anyone after my beloved could be like my beloved.
With my soul after my love like my love.
