بعثت ببردِ بما زادكم نوى

بعثت ببردِ بما زادكم نوى

وقد كان يكفي الهجر من شعبان

وقد كان يكفي الهجر من شعبان

You sent a cloak because of what deepened your separation.

I sent with cold what augmented your intent

And estrangement from Sha'ban would have sufficed.

Though parting in Sha'ban was enough

فلا تجزعي يا نفس من صدعة النوى

فلا تجزعي يا نفس من صدعة النوى

ستشعب من كفي أخيى شعبان

ستشعب من كفي أخيى شعبان

So do not despair, O soul, at the rift of separation;

So do not despair, O soul, from the breaking of intent

It will be mended by the two hands of my brother Sha'ban.

Sha'ban's rivers will flow from my brother's palm
