منwho فتىa youth أعطاهgranted him موليهhis benefactor المنىwishes
من فتى أعطاه موليه المنى
وكفاهand spared him ماwhat عناهtroubled him فدناso he drew near
وكفاه ما عناه فدنا
Who is the youth whose benefactor granted him his wishes
He who was granted his wish by his Lord
And spared him what troubled him, so he drew near?
And was spared what pained him, drew near.
أنتyou أولىmost deserving الخلقcreation أنto توسعهlavish upon Him
أنت أولى الخلق أن توسعه
ياO صلاحSalah الدينal-Din حمداpraise وثناand acclaim
يا صلاح الدين حمدا وثنا
You, above all creation, ought to lavish upon Him,
You, best of creation, are most deserving
O Salah al-Din, praise and acclaim.
To enlarge him, O Saladin, with praise and grace.
كلevery يومday لكfor you منfrom ربthe Lord السماheaven
كل يوم لك من رب السما
مننfavors لمnot تحصbeen counted تتلوfollow منناfavors
منن لم تحص تتلو مننا
Every day, you have from the Lord of heaven
From the Lord of the heavens, each day
Uncounted favors, following other favors.
Are favors that cannot be counted, we mention but a few.
يعظمgrows grave الخطبthe crisis ويطفيand quenches فإذاthen when
يعظم الخطب ويطفي فإذا
قيلis said ياO أحمدAhmad أضحىbecomes هيناeasy
قيل يا أحمد أضحى هينا
The crisis grows grave, and he quenches it; when
Though matters grow grave, He will make them pass, and if
'O Ahmad' is said, it becomes easy.
Called "O Ahmad", at once they are slight.
إنهindeed, it is التوفيقdivine aid قدalready أعطيتهyou were granted it
إنه التوفيق قد أعطيته
أينماwherever وجهتyou turn أدركتyou attain مناwishes
أينما وجهت أدركت منا
It is divine aid that you have been granted;
Success is granted to you,
Wherever you turn, you attain your wishes.
Wherever you turn, you attain support.
لاdo not تخفfear فاللهfor God مولاكyour protector ومنand whoever
لا تخف فالله مولاك ومن
يكis للهof God ولياa friend أمناis safe
يك لله وليا أمنا
Do not fear, for God is your protector; and whoever
Do not fear, for God is your Guardian, and he
Is a friend of God is safe.
For whom God is a Guardian, is secured.
قمتyou took a stand فيfor اللهGod لكيso that تصلحyou reform منthose who
قمت في الله لكي تصلح من
أفسدspread corruption فيon الأرضthe earth قياماa stand حسناnoble
أفسد في الأرض قياما حسنا
You took a stand for God to reform those who
You stood for God, to set right those
Had spread corruption on earth—a noble stand.
Who corrupted the earth, an excellent standing.
بعتyou traded away لهوthe diversions العيشof life بالجدfor earnest endeavor ومنand whoever
بعت لهو العيش بالجد ومن
لمdoes not يبعtrade away لهواdiversion يجدfinds غبناloss in the bargain
لم يبع لهوا يجد غبنا
You traded life's diversions for earnest endeavor; and whoever
You sold the vain life for effort, and he
Does not trade away diversion loses in the bargain.
Who does not sell vainness, finds loss.
