When necks stretch upward toward ranks,
When necks are stretched for high positions,
They come hurrying to you, though you have not pressed hard in pursuit.
They come to you though you did not seek them.

Though Ahmad inherits glory from his father,

If he had nothing to show his highness,
To his lofty standing except his noble forefathers,
Except his noble forefathers?

That alone would suffice for him to trample
In that there would be something he would forcibly tread upon
By force, the hair-partings on the heads of the seven bright stars.
Reluctantly leaving the orbit of the seven planets.

Sons of Muʿaybid, take pride: mankind is mere appearance,
O clan of Ma'ybid you are the pride of mankind,
And you are the hidden jewel among the Arabs.
And you are the hidden gem among the Arabs.

التربُ مدفن موت الناس كلهمُ

وميتكم وحدهُ المدفونُ في الكتبِ
Dust is the burial place of all mankind's dead,
The earth is the grave of all men in the end,
While your departed one alone is buried in books.
Yet only your dead are buried in books.

A man decays in his grave, deep in the heart of the earth,
A young man's grave is in the bowels of earth,
But the tomb that books provide endures through the ages.
While books are an everlasting grave.

Your young man is mature in the winning of glory,
Your youth excels in gaining glory,
And your mature man's ambition for glory has not grown gray.
And your elders' concern is glory never waning.

From you I have, beyond my wealth with others,
An affection that has given me a kinsman's standing.
An intimacy that gives me the status of kinship.

And the mainstay of humankind, non-Arabs and Arabs alike.
And the pillar of mankind, Arab and non-Arab.
