يا راكبا في طلاب العيشة الهلكه

هون عليك فليس الرزق بالحركه

O you who ride into ruin in pursuit of a living,

Go easy on yourself, for sustenance is not won by activity.

الرازق الله والارزاق يقسمها

ولم يدعها سدى في الناس مشتركة

God is the Provider, and He apportions the provisions.

Nor has He left them unassigned, shared in common among people.

فما ينال امرؤ ما ليس يملكه

ولا يفوت امرؤ منها الذي ملكه

So no one obtains what is not his to possess,

nor does anyone miss the share of it that is his.

وقدرة الله أخفاها بحكمته

عن الورى وهي في الأسباب منسبكه

God, in His wisdom, has concealed His power

from humankind, though it is fused with the causes of things.

فالأرض لم تؤت لولا حرثها اكلا

والصيد ما صيد لو لم تنصب الشبكه

For the earth would yield no food without being tilled,

and no game would be caught if the net were not set.

لو شاء اظهارها في الناس ما عمرت

أرض ولا مد فيها صائد شركه

Had He wished to reveal it among people, no one would cultivate

any land, nor would a hunter spread his snare upon it.

وقد أبان لاهل العقل قدرته

فوفقوا وكثير الناس مرتبكه

He has indeed made His power clear to people of understanding,

so they were guided aright, while many people are bewildered.

لو لم يكن أمرهم في كف مقتدر

يقضي عليهم بما يقضي به الملكه

Were their affairs not in the hand of One all-powerful,

who decrees their fate as sovereignty dictates,

ما بات ذو الراي يسرى للغني عمها

عن الطريق واعمى القلب قد سلكه

no man of judgment would spend the night journeying toward wealth, astray

from the path, while one blind of heart had followed it.

كم عاجز ضرع جم قلائده

وحازم يقظ والفقر قد هلكه

How many a helpless, feeble man has necklaces in plenty,

while a resolute, vigilant man has been ruined by poverty!

ورب جامع مال غير منفقه

قد مات عنه وفي أعدائه تركه

And many a man who gathers wealth without spending it

has died, leaving it behind among his enemies.

ما كان ينفقه في شهوة بخلا

واليوم ينفقه من يأخذ التركه

He would not spend it on pleasure, out of stinginess,

yet today whoever takes the inheritance spends it.

امر من الله يعطي ذا بحيلة ذا

هذا يصيد وهذا يأكل السمكه

It is God's decree: He provides for one through another's ingenuity;

this man fishes, and that man eats the fish.

فأرجع إلى الله وأقنع تستفد شرفا

أليس رزقك فيما قاله دركه

So return to God and be content; you will gain honor.

Is your sustenance not His responsibility, as He has said?

فثق به وتوكل تسترح وترح

ولست تعدم فيما تملك البركة

So trust in Him and rely on Him; you will find rest and bring relief.

And you will not lack blessing in what you possess.
