My tears scatter on my cheek like pearls,
My tears on my cheek are like pearls scattering
whether news of them has reached me or none has come.
Whether news of them came to me or no tidings came

And how could my anguish subside if news came,
And how can my passion subside if news comes
when longing grows more turbulent whenever they are mentioned?
And yearning grows more tumultuous when they are mentioned

What lover sheds tears that obey him
when he restrains them, and flow whenever he lets them go.
If he holds them back, and when does he let them flow

Think not the youth's tears are spilt, truly his tears
are mistaken everywhere for rain.
Are deemed by all places to be rainfall

With a separation decreed for us by Fate

because of an envier who spoke words that left no mark.

Hidden from the sun, protected behind a veil, never
He conceals himself from the sun modestly with a veil, so it
has the sun's eye seen him since both came into being.

If it saw him, abashed it would remain
and the ravages of excessive jealousy would have changed her.
Changing through intense jealousy and wonder

he is faithful when the folk of the ghaḍā groves betray.
To him belongs loyalty when people of rancour are treacherous

for in love, a fault like this is forgiven.
For in passion the like of this sin is forgiven

After it had been bent by old age and senility

Which kings aspired to in what they decreed

From every person's heart obedience to authority
