My messenger came to her; listen to what befell him.
My messenger came to her, so listen to what happened to him
I was indeed troubled when I heard his account.
I was troubled when I heard his words
رأتهshe saw him فقالتthen she said أنتyou منof بعضsome رسلهhis messengers
رأته فقالت أنت من بعض رسله
فقالthen he said نعمyes قالتshe said فصفso describe ليto me حالهhis condition
فقال نعم قالت فصف لي حاله
She saw him and said, “You are one of his messengers.”
She saw him and said, “Are you one of his messengers?”
He said, “Yes.” She said, “Then describe his condition to me.”
He said, “Yes.” She said, “Then describe his state to me.”

فقال كئيب القلب قالت فجسمه
فقالthen he said نحيلwasted منwhoever رآهsaw him رثاfelt pity لهfor him
فقال نحيل من رآه رثا له
He said, “Sorrowful at heart.” She said, “And his body?”
He said, “Sorrowful of heart.” She said, “Then his body?”
He said, “Wasted; whoever sees him pities him.”
He said, “Thin - whoever saw him, lamented for him.”
فقالتthen she said وزدنيand tell me more قالhe said أماas for نهارهhis day

She said, “And tell me more.” He said, “As for his day,
She said, “Tell me more.” He said, “His days
he weeps; as for his night, he has no sleep.”
He weeps, and his nights hold no rest for him.”

فلما وعت ما قال قالت قتلته

وان دام هذا راح لالي ولاله
When she understood what he said, she said, “I have killed him.
When she understood what he said, she said, “You have killed him!
And if this lasts, he will be lost both to me and to himself.
If this continues, his mind and sanity will be lost.”

By God, I did not leave him out of weariness.
By God, I have not abandoned him out of boredom
And whose right hand ever tires of his left?

But slanderers were excessive in their talk.
After they left, they made me forbidden to him
Away with those people! They deprived me of union with him.”
You spoke truthfully. When the slanderer talks, he makes the absurd seem reasonable

إذا حدث الواشي تسيغ محاله
You spoke truly in what you say; why, then, does she,
As for my dream the day they departed
when the slanderer speaks, swallow his falsehood?
I saw tears in his eyes as he went on his way

As for my sleep, the day they readied their saddles,
I said to him “Turn back!” He said “This is where I live now
it saw the tears in my eyes and readied its own.
My enemy drove me out and you call me back, but I have no place there.”

I said to it, “Return!” It said, “You lodged in my place
Where are you calling me, when you have little passion?
my enemy, yet you summon me! What have I to do with him?
It dries up, with no yearning for it to cease.

“Your lover will not survive this estrangement.”

If she has shunned him out of fear for him
“Your young man cannot live on amid such coldness.
Then let her know that shunning has brought him ruin.

Then blame him afterward for whatever he does!

By God, my heart - how much it can endure!

I have never ceased to meet one such affliction after another.
I start the day fighting destiny, alone
By God, my heart—how great its endurance!
And end the night, rallying my troops.

I make peace with the vicissitudes of Time, while it wages war,
Misfortune went too far in my ill-fated lot -
and evening finds me alone while it musters its men.
Events that count as sins upon a man.

Calamities have indeed gone too far in blighting my fortune,
I will take my vengeance on my time through Ahmad
counting a man's excellence against him as a sin.
When one has a score to settle, he hastens to settle it.

Through Ahmad I shall seek my vengeance on Time;
Ahmad is not one to let a neighbor down
whoever has a claim to vengeance like mine would pursue it.
Rather, he is one who would give away his wealth
فماfor not أحمدAhmad ممنamong those who يضيعneglects جارهhis neighbor

Ahmad is not one to neglect his neighbor,
Ask about his gifts - the treasuries of his wealth
but he is one to squander his wealth.
Do not pity them when they complain of his generosity!

Ask his treasuries about his gifts,
If his gifts did not drain them dry, they would not stoop
and do not pity them when they complain of his largesse.
To kiss the slippers of kings.

Follow his example, O seekers of glory and elevation!
would the mouths of kings be kissing his sandals.
But you are far from attaining his virtues.

So follow his example, seekers of glory and eminence,
A brother of resolves - may God aid his efforts -
though it is a distant hope that you should reach his stature.
And of conquering might - woe to him who opposes him!

A man of firm resolves whose striving God has strengthened,
A young man who never wavered or regretted
and of mighty onslaughts—woe to him against whom they are unleashed!
Who closely considers the outcome of every matter - nothing makes him turn back.

يلاحظ عقبي الأمر لا منثنى له
A young man who never let prudence slip, nor spent a night regretting,
Dignified, though soft-skinned ones warn him
watching the outcome of affairs, with no turning back.
And serious matters shock him, I say nothing shocks him.

Composed when the minds of the wise grow flighty,
We have heard of the affairs of kings, but found
even when a calamity strikes terror, you say, “Nothing has shaken him.”
No peer for our Ahmad to compare him to.

We have heard accounts of kings, yet we have not found
Kings are but thousands to his one
another who could be our Ahmad's equal.
They shudder while we cannot reckon his merits.

Kings—we weighed a thousand of them against one,
Gifts and favors walk before him
and they proved light, though we had not fully weighed his virtues.

Ishmael has long boasted of Ahmad
of the lofty ranks he has raised for him.

Ismail has grown tall indeed with pride in Ahmad,
When he claims descent from kings, the stars in heaven
and the clouds' pride in their rain has no end.

When he traces his descent to kings, there bow down
Six rulers were his foster-fathers, arranged
the bright stars of heaven in its horizon before him.
In a sequence as measured as verses in a poem.

He descends from six kings, aligned in succession,
Among them Ahmad is, by what we know, Ahmad -
in the order of a strung necklace, secure against disarray.
Inclining to right wherever it leads him.

So the most praiseworthy of them, as far as we know, is Ahmad,
May the God of the Throne protect him from what he fears
following goodness wherever it leads him.
And honor his dwelling, blessing his family!

honor his dwelling, and grant him peace of mind.
