حاشاكم أن تقطعوا صلة الندى
أوor تصرفواyou turn away علمthe standard المعارفlearning أحمداAhmad
أو تصرفوا علم المعارف أحمدا
Far be it from you to sever the bond of generosity,
Far be it from you to sever the ties of kinship
Or turn away Ahmad, the standard of learning.
Or deny the knowledge of Ahmad
هوhe مبتداa grammatical subject بخباءin the tent of ابناthe sons of جنسهhis kind
هو مبتدا بخباء ابنا جنسه
واللهand God يأبىrefuses غيرanything but رفعraising (grammatically, nominative case) المبتداthe grammatical subject
والله يأبى غير رفع المبتدا
He is the subject in the tent of his peers,
He began with the unlettered among his people
And God allows nothing but the raising of the subject.
And God refuses all but to exalt the unlettered one
اغريتمyou incited الزمنTime المعاندthe obstinate باسمهagainst his name
اغريتم الزمن المعاند باسمه
وحذفتموهand you omitted him كأنهas though he were حرفa particle النداvocative address
وحذفتموه كأنه حرف الندا
You incited obstinate Time against his name,
You provoked the hostile times with his name
And you omitted him as though he were a vocative particle.
And omitted it as if it were a mere letter
