How many favors you have bestowed, O neighbor of Mina,

upon a brother melted by sorrow for one grown old.

The letter reached me while grief lay in my heart,

so it stirred longings for you, and sorrow.

    Through it, light and radiance from you shone for me;

by it I walked in guidance along a straight path.

Nor is one whom love surprises with longing

ever like one in whose heart longing has lain hidden.

If the truest in speech of those who have returned is not

the one describing the longing I bear, then who is?

Longing has added frailty to my weakness,

because you are far away, and my bones have grown weak.

Indeed, my loyalty is yours, O neighbors of the House,

untainted by saying 'no,' 'did not,' or 'will not.'

Peace from me be upon you always,

without end, as long as the wind sways a bough.

Indeed, I regard my love for you as a sacred rite,

and love for whoever has passed by you and whoever has dwelt there.

So unite us, Lord, on the night of al-Jamʿ,

and in Mina—a reunion, the greatest of favors to us.
