I ate meat lawfully through the bounty

of Muhammad the emir, at no cost.

فعارضني حسود نال مني

فعارضني حسود نال مني

وضاددني لديه بأكل لحمي

وضاددني لديه بأكل لحمي

Then a jealous man opposed me and spoke ill of me,

and opposed me before him by eating my flesh.

أعدلي عادتي الأول ودعني

أعدلي عادتي الأول ودعني

أغايظ من أحل اليوم ظلمي

أغايظ من أحل اليوم ظلمي

Restore my former allowance to me, and let me

vex whoever today has deemed it lawful to wrong me.

فهذا القدر عندك ليس شيئا

فهذا القدر عندك ليس شيئا

على ما كان من فقري وعدمي

على ما كان من فقري وعدمي

For this amount is nothing to you,

given the poverty and destitution I have known.

ولي خمسون عاماً غير شيء

ولي خمسون عاماً غير شيء

بصحبتكم على خيرٍ وغنم

بصحبتكم على خيرٍ وغنم

And I have spent nearly fifty years

in your company, amid goodness and gain.
