أتيتُI came مسلماًoffering greetings ومنand among الرجالهmanly deeds
أتيتُ مسلماً ومن الرجاله
أَقولI say مودعاًbidding farewell خوفfor fear of الثقالهbeing burdensome
أَقول مودعاً خوف الثقاله
I came offering greetings; and it is a mark of manliness
I came as a Muslim and a man of principle
To bid farewell for fear of being burdensome.
I bid farewell, relieved of burdens
فإنso if ترضىyou approve of الوداعthe farewell شكرتI thanked نفسيmyself
فإن ترضى الوداع شكرت نفسي
والاand if not يرتضيهhe approves of it فشكرهاthen its thanks لهto him
والا يرتضيه فشكرها له
If you approve of the farewell, I thank myself;
If you accept my farewell I thank myself
And if he does not approve of it, my soul’s thanks go to him.
If not, I thank you for it
