I am plagued by every ignorant, mindless follower,
I have become confused by every ignorance
deaf to the reproaches of the reprover.
Deaf to the reproach of reproachers

I reproach them, only to blow into ashes;
Blame them, so blow into ashes
and admonish them, only to lament amid ruins.
And blame them, so moan into long nights

They galloped in the scholars' racecourse,
They raced in the arena of scholars, running
on a lean racing mare of pretensions and idle talk.
With the pretense of claims and curiosity

They sought to rise through branches, but these cast them down;
They rose with the branches, so we brought them down
can branches rise without roots?
Can branches rise without roots?

And most jurisprudential knowledge is analogy
through which disparity in intellect becomes clear.
By which the differences in minds are shown

If only, having gone astray, they had sought evidence,
If only they, having gone astray, would infer
for truth's high ground has a bright, clear path.
The truth is elucidated and the path is clear

Their mirage upon the plain smiles at me,
The mirage of the horizon secretly mocks me of them
and the 'he said' and 'it was said' they have invented.
And what they fabricated of sayings and words

The advocates of jurisprudence have grown so numerous that
The proclaimers of jurisprudence have become so many
I have come to see eminence in obscurity.
That I see merit in silence

Have I praised the good consequences of beautiful patience

spent in the service of noble learning.
That passed in serving the sublime knowledge
