Against the foes, you fulfilled the promise of hope,

And healed the souls' ailments, freeing them from wasting sickness.

And you assailed them with battalions which, had they

Assailed the vicissitudes of Time, would have shattered all it built.

Nothing terrified them but the lovely swords,

Glittering in battle dust beneath the tangle of lances.

And death comes from there and from here.

For bloodshed, and had passed round the cups of annihilation.

Your enemies suffered, O king, a rout,

A ghastly one that they once had no need to suffer.

They thought their insignificance in your eyes would shield them

From your hand's might; thus their lowliness deceived them.

    فالهزل منك بمثلهم لن يؤمنا

    Suppose they sought your protection in earnest;

Yet your sport with their like can never be deemed safe.

They were ignorant and took no heed, so became a lesson

Proclaiming that ignorance is a wretched possession.

O king who brings stability, and who

Has never ceased to be a fortified stronghold for Islam:

You brightened the face of the faith as you guarded it,

And aided it with a victory that gladdened the eyes.

My soul be your ransom; within my heart is a desire

Which I disclose to you, in secret and openly.

Among your servants there is not one to whom you have not given

Just now a reward for service, except me.

May you ever live a life whose joy endures

Forever, and may whoever comes be welcomed with happiness.
