God will not let a sincere adviser suffer for advising you,

nor let the young man's deed go to waste while he is sincere.

And your judgment is a dawn whose light reveals the truth

plainly, while doubt's night is black and descending.

    فزور واشيهم وكثر كاشح

    Men who joined forces informed against me out of hostility;

so their slanderer fabricated lies, and a spiteful foe piled them up.

And they planned to bar the door between me and you,

not knowing of a door whose opener you are.

    وان سخطوا فالسر غاد ورائح

    I am afflicted with them: if I please them, I fear your displeasure;

and if they are displeased, the secret travels to and fro.

    كذلك ميزان النصيحة راجح

    I outweigh them, and they prove light, if you weigh our words;

thus sincere counsel weighs heavier in the balance.

I neglected a right of theirs to safeguard your rights,

and that is a duty imposed by sincere counsel.

    فما خائن فيما تولاه رابح

    And had they been fair, they would not have blamed me for their own wrong;

for no traitor profits from what he undertakes.

God will not let me meet you with my record

blackened, read out, and its disgraces laid bare.

I guarded you in your absence, and God knows

what my ribs enfold within me.

And I have not swerved from my pledge, nor will I swerve,

even if their sword-blades were brandished against me.

What my envier hid and still hides will come to light,

and it will be known where sincere intentions lie.

And I have an aim other than what you seek,

and a goal that avaricious souls pass by.

And the lightest of what I endure, if you are pleased,

is their harm and those vile outrages.

My life for your heart, brimming with forbearance,

    when limbs tremble amid perplexities.

May God fill that heart with light and wisdom,

for with it you ward off crushing calamities.

For no one but Ahmad deserves praise

as a monarch, when mighty kings are counted.

And what king has forbearance like Ahmad's?

And are the two seas equal—one fresh, one salt?

And is there anyone like Ibn Isma'il, the king whose

    fingertips were keys to sustenance?

So this torrent pours forth from that cloud,

and this full moon gleams from those horizons.

So, O champion of Islam, O one who dispelled blindness

through his judgments, while truth is radiant and clear,

enrage my envier and raise my standing; for perhaps

you will be pleased with me, a servant sincere to you.

I shall weary those after me and make those before me forgotten,

when you take me into your favor—for innate qualities are places of repose.

May you receive the benefactors' reward on behalf of humankind,

for you have never ceased to protect them and fight in their defense.

And you have never ceased to be kind and compassionate toward them,

and everyone's life under your care has always been good.
