We praise Him, knowing that the cause is from us

For masters do not shun their slaves out of aversion,
So my heart does not resent His loyal servants
nor is a father's hurting his son an act of hatred.
Nor does the father hate the son out of anger

In what makes a man weep, not what makes him laugh,
In man's weeping, not his laughter
lies betterment, which his tearful trials make seem like malice against him [reading uncertain].
Lies reform, weeping reforms him

So do not be surprised at one who examines his condition

And corrupts some words to improve the meaning

I do not praise the generous or blame the stingy in vain
so lavish praise upon him whenever he gives generously or withholds.
I extensively praise him whenever he gives or deprives

and fear of it is stronger when it leaves the sheath.

When He says "Forbearance and suppressed rage"

He who held the sword casts it from his hand in cowardice

I was fortunate, though I slept a sick man's sleep
whenever I set it upright, it collapses from weakness.
Whenever I stand up, I stumble from weakness

They said, 'Move about and set out at dawn, for water, through flowing,

But running water turns foul, and long stays make it rotten

for they dwelt beside neither the encompassing ocean nor the rainclouds.
For they did not live by the endless sea or lofty peaks

A generous man who sees undeserved kindness as duty
making generosity obligatory was the first rule he established.
And generosity itself was the first thing he instituted

Where stars enter on their feet graciously

one took a fortress, and the other took a fortress.
One took a fortress and the other took a fortress
