لم يبق قلب فيك غير عميد
Your charms have filled existence with charms;

فقضى جمال وجوده بوجودى
O you whose beauty summoned me before I came into being,
O you who called me before your beauty existed
so the beauty of your being decreed my being.
So your beauty's existence fulfilled my existence

And I have indeed seen its waters, but it was

A dream, preventing its taste, obstructed
أمعذبيO my tormentor بدلالهwith his coyness ومنعميand my benefactor
أمعذبي بدلاله ومنعمي
بجمالهwith his beauty وبهائهand with his splendor المشهودbeheld
بجماله وبهائه المشهود
O you who torment me with your coyness and delight me
Do you torture me with affection and favor me
with your beauty and your manifest splendor,
With beauty and brilliance witnessed?
إنif كنتyou are فىon يومthe day العذابtorment معاتبىmy reproacher
إن كنت فى يوم العذاب معاتبى
فمتىthen when أفوزI attain بيومهits day الموعودpromised
فمتى أفوز بيومه الموعود
if you reproach me on the day of torment,
If on Judgment Day you blame me
then when shall I attain its promised day?
When will I attain the promised day?
لىfor me منfrom جمالكyour beauty حسنloveliness of وعدa promise يرتجىhoped for
لى من جمالك حسن وعد يرتجى
ومنand from الدلالcoyness عليupon me حسنloveliness of وعيدa threat
ومن الدلال علي حسن وعيد
From your beauty I have a lovely promise to hope for;
From your beauty I have promise of goodness hoped
and from your coyness, a lovely threat against me.
And from affection upon me beautiful threat
خطواتfootsteps ذكركremembrance of you لاnot تفارقleave خاطريmy mind
خطوات ذكرك لا تفارق خاطري
وجمالand the beauty حسنكyour loveliness لمnot يزلcease مشهودىwhat I behold
وجمال حسنك لم يزل مشهودى

واذاand when نطقتI speak فأنتthen you مقصودىthe one I seek وانand if
واذا نطقت فأنت مقصودى وان
أصمتI fall silent فحينthen at the time of فنايmy annihilation فيin مقصودىthe one I seek
أصمت فحين فناي في مقصودى
And when I speak, you are the one I seek; and if
When I speak, you're my intention, and if
I fall silent, it is when I am annihilated in the one I seek.
Silent, my annihilation in my intention
لولاكwere it not for you لمnot ينضwear out المساقthe journey مطيتىmy mount
لولاك لم ينض المساق مطيتى

نضوي أسائل صامت الجلمود
nor, at Rāma's landmarks, would I have halted
Nor would I remain on the landmarks of yearning
my worn-out mount, questioning the silent boulder.
Embracing silent questions of stillness
ولعىmy passion بغزلانfor the gazelles of الصريمthe sandy tract قضىdecreed بهfor it
ولعى بغزلان الصريم قضى به
ولهىmy lovesick yearning عليكfor you وموقفىand my halt بزرودat Zarūd
ولهى عليك وموقفى بزرود
My passion for the gazelles of the sandy tract was decreed by
Maybe with the fleet mountain goats it passed
my lovesick yearning for you and my halt at Zarūd.
While my rapture in you, my stance at Al-Zarood
فىin كلevery وقتmoment لىfor me هوىlove متجددrenewed
فى كل وقت لى هوى متجدد
لغريبfor a wondrous حسنbeauty لاحappeared فيكin you جديدnew
لغريب حسن لاح فيك جديد
At every moment I have a love renewed
At every time a renewed love I have
for a wondrous beauty newly appearing in you.
For a wondrous beauty that appeared in you novel
خفيتwas hidden بهthrough it ذاتىmy self وأظهرand revealed صبوتيmy yearning
خفيت به ذاتى وأظهر صبوتي
