جزعت لان جيش الروم وافى
ومثلىand one like me ليسdoes not يجزعfeel dismay فىamid الخطوبcalamities
ومثلى ليس يجزع فى الخطوب
I was dismayed because the Byzantine army arrived;
I was saddened when the Roman army arrived,
yet one like me does not give way to dismay amid calamities.
But one like me does not despair in adversities,
وماand not جزعىmy dismay لشيءfor anything غيرother than أنيthat I
وما جزعى لشيء غير أني
أخافI fear منfrom العدوthe enemy علىfor الحبيبthe beloved
أخاف من العدو على الحبيب
And my dismay has no cause except that
My sorrow is not for anything, except that
I fear for my beloved because of the enemy.
I fear for my beloved from the enemy.
